a little backgrounder… most of the time, during weekends, my cousins and i would play poker. sometimes, with a couple of beers or a cup of coffee. but in all my poker playing life, i’ve never won. there were times i end up head to head with one of my cousins, or my brother, but never did i win. we play poker for fun. to join, you need to shed 50 pesos. it’s good if there are many players. last night there were 6 of us. even at the start of the game, i felt that it was my lucky night. i keep on getting good cards. even if the cards i had were something you’d fold with, luck was really on my side, they’d win. surprisingly enough, i won! my cousins were really excited for me and they took a picture. i left the camera at home, so we ended up using my fone to capture the moment. we played another round but i lost in that one. still, winner pa rin!

kids say the darnedest things #3

my nephew visited us again this afternoon. he was his usual bubbly & energetic self. our neighbor was building an extension to their house and i showed it to him

me: look yohan, they’re building a house.
yohan: where? how can you say they’re building a house.
me: you see that man on top? he’s putting on the roof.
yohan: let’s go there.
me: we can’t.
yohan: why?
me: cos it’s dangerous. the roof might fall on us

he kept on insisting that we go nearer the construction. and i was steadfast in telling him that we can’t. and i left him talking to my cousins. after a while he called me.

yohan: ninang chona, come. i have to show you somethin’.

so i went with him. he stood just outside our house. he pointed at the ceiling.

yohan: you should fix your roof. it might fall on me.

i laughed so hard. he was actually talking about our ceiling, which is almost coming off (our house is old and in bad need of repairs). i told him to tell his mama (that’s what he calls my mom)  about it. and he actually did. he pulled my mom and told her the same thing. hahaha.

my uncle’s family were also here for lunch. we can’t stop but be amazed at my nephew. he’s so talkative. we talk to yohan in english cos that’s what he’s used to.

tito boy: totoy, baket ga ika’y ingles ng ingles. baka ika’y mapagkamalang mayaman. ika’y ma-kidnap.
yohan: i’m a good boy. they only kidnap bad boys.

hahaha. he understands tagalog but speaks in english.

tita myrna: you know yohan, he drives an airplane (referring to tito boy who’s a pilot)
yohan: oooh, he’s a pilot (clapping his hands gleefully)! he’s going to bring me to the states! that’s where we could buy lego.

i learned from his mom, rach, that once when yohan wanted one set of legos (apart from what she just bought him), she told him that it’s wasn’t available locally and can only be found in the states, hence the comment of wanting to go to the states. hahaha.

oktoberfest? i don’t think so…

october and i had always had a good relationship. i’ve always loved october. this is when i really feel the christmas breeze, esp. at night. my dad’s birthday is on october. i have a lot of friends who were born in october, hence… a lot of birthday celebrations during october… sembreaks are usually on october…

but this year… it seems we’re not in a good relationship anymore… we’ve had tons of breakdowns/downtimes on the machines (at work)… my pc crashed… my atm got captured… and this week — another week full of machine breakdowns… we’ve spent the week at work a little relaxed… no production operations (too bad for the patients)…

monday, i came to work and found that not one unit was produced… the machine was down… during our shift, conditions were the same… tuesday… we were told to report later than usual, they were trying to fix the problem… only to find that the problem still hasn’t been fixed (and it might take a while)… forced leave for everyone… wednesday night… late schedule again… but still production was down… then i got a text message from a friend… one friend of ours, who we haven’t seen for a while is home (from the states)… and is gathering everyone on thursday night (which was a few hours ago) for a dinner, at makati… his treat. yes! i was hopeful (and praying so hard) that there will be a forced leave for everyone again (selfish me!), so that i could join them…

thursday afternoon, i asked my boss if the machine was fixed. she told me to inform everyone to report at the normal hour. they’ve fixed the problem. naman! of all the days that it would get fixed. i texted my friend and told her: hindi ako malakas sa diyos. need to report to work. or maybe, mas marami nagdarasal na sana magkapasok na kami.

in other words, i won’t be able to make it. i was advised to call in sick. or switch schedules with somebody else. or file a half day leave. but alas! duty calls. i know i was needed. the machine might need trouble-shooting, and i should be doing it. haay. can’t really be irresponsible. esp. at work. so i went to work.

naman! when i got there, still no production. no RM available. the equipment that produces the H2O that we’ll be using is showing some signs of trouble. we were supposed to start at 1900H. start production, that is, and not start generating the RM that will be used. 2000H came and went. still a no go. i was really feeling frustrated here. i should’ve listened to my friend and took a half day leave. i texted them and asked how they were doing (masochist!). they said, that i shouldn’t ask. i’ll only get pissed. well, i was feeling that already.

how did this story end? we started at a little past midnight. grrr. really should’ve listened to my friend.

but looking at the bright side, no more forced leaves!

then again, week isn’t over yet. we’ll probably have to work on saturday. after this week’s output. that’s almost a sure thing (what a downer!).

kids say the darnedest things #2

i love weekends. most of the time, my nephew and nieces go to our house during weekends and i love playing with them. i love hearing them talk. saying anything. here’s part of what happened last saturday…

mama (nanay ko): yohan, we bought something for you yesterday. we bought you a mask.

yohan (my kuya’s son): oh, i have a scary mask to scare you mama.

fast forward… we got the masks and showed them to the kids…

yohan: oh, i don’t like that one (pointing to the 1st pack). that has hair. that’s for girls!

so he took the next mask. put it on…

aunts/uncles (pinsan ko): ooohh, we’re scared. (shempre, pretending lang ano)

yohan: it’s just me! it’s just a mask! hahaha.

but when tisha came up to him (wearing her own mask), he started to slowly walk away until eventually he ran to his dad and held on to him tightly. (akala ko ba: it’s just me! it’s just a mask! hahaha)

i didn’t really see what happened next. but according to my mom, they continued playing with the masks. until one of my cousins wore the mask and tried to scare him. for the 1st time in yohan’s history (i think), he was the first one to ask to go home. whenever they would visit us and it was time to go home, he’d cry and refuse to go home.

before going home, he needed to tidy himself. my kuya removed yohan’s sneakers…

uncle: oh, your feet smells like chicken manure (kidding yohan).

yohan: leave me alone. stop embarrassing me!

really. to think he’s only four. i am amazed, most of the time, at what my kids say (my nephew and nieces. wala pa ko sariling akin eh).

i miss your waking me up on a saturday morning by tickling my knees…

i miss your saying: lasing ka na naman daw umuwi kagabi – while i’m having a major hangover the day after a late night out, your tone with no hint of reprimand but a tone of you laughing a little at me…

i miss a lot about you dad… and having you just a wall away… banging your feet at the floor in the wee hours of the night that have me jumping in bed lotsatimes thinking that you’ve fallen off the stairs… and i can’t do anything (or i probably could, but i don’t know what or how) about it… there are nights that i sometimes cry in bed, hearing you pushing your bed around your room…

i haven’t stopped praying that you’ll get better soon, knowing full well that my prayers have a slim chance of being granted… tomorrow, you’ll be 65… i’m thankful that you’re physically well… i’m just forever hopeful that you’ll come back… happy birthday dad.

lousy week

this is turning out to be a lousy week for me. first off, my pc’s down. sa sobrang katamaran ko maghintay ng proper shutdown last friday (which actually is not a part of this week, pero i’m starting my week that day. hehe), sapagkat male-late na ako, when i got home saturday morning and turned on my pc. shiyet. ayaw mag-boot. i had to wait for sunday and for manny’s game to finish before my boyf could visit me (he’s a major boxing fan) and try to fix my pc (i’m no help when it comes to fixing this contrapment). turned out, he couldn’t. he said he thinks i need to reformat. dang!

so i sent it to my techie cousin. monday night, he texted me and told me i had to send the adaptors too (my pc’s a little different from the common pc’s here. japayuki kse ang cpu ko. mejo iba ang mga ports). so another day without the pc.

2nd off – no more ka-ching pagdating ng monday. so before going to work, i stopped at an atm and tried to withdraw some moolah. so there i was… i put in the atm card. punched my pin. punched the amount i wanted to get. and waited. and waited. and waited for the card & money to come out. until. the screen went black. wtf! mukhang nag-reboot ang atm. lekat. kinabahan na ako. i had a strong feeling my atm’ll be captured. major lekat. captured nga. so i called the hotline and had it blocked. lekat ulet.

3rd – dahil sa komoshon sa atm. muntik pa ako ma-late. was supposed to be in at 0700H. got in at 0656H. sana tuloy may OT ako ng 1 hour. kaso mo i’m trying to get a perfect attendance award (wherein you have to punch-in 5 mins earlier than your sked, all VLs must be filed at least a day ahead. no ELs, MLs or SLs). so lekat ulet. matatanggal ako kung ipipilit kong 0700H ang in ko. ginawa ko na lang na 0800H para di pa ako late.

4th – nagtext ang techie cousin. ala na daw pag-asa cpu ko. reformat is the answer talaga. ang masaklap? hindi naka-partition ang HD ko. lekat to the max na ito. ibig sabihin lang. lahat ng mga mp3 na na-dl ko for the past month (mejo bago lang pc eh, hehe) wala na. all those billie holiday songs. and all the songs i dl-ed na para sa nalalapit kong wedding sana. haay. start from scratch ulet. isa pang matindi, yung mga pics! haay. anlakas na nga ba ng kutob ko na magpartition eh. sa katamaran… yan ang napala ko.

i’ve retrieved my atm card again today. kaso mo, can’t make any transactions yet. have to wait for another 24 hours. major zilch moolah na ang beauty ko. umutang na tuloy ako (which i soooo soooo hate doing!).

the only good thing about all this, i filed for a half-day leave today to go to the bank. after the bank thingie, my boyf and i spent the whole afternoon together. we seldom get to do this during a weekday. we even got to finalize a couple of things pa for the wedding kse nakausap ko rin ang niyen nya (that’s his pet name for his mom).

at ngayon, tinatawag na ako ng yaya ng kuya ko. kakain na raw. bilisan ko raw at may lakad pa sya.
